Responsibilities of ministry in the local church such as preaching, teaching,
administration, counseling and administering the sacraments. I initiated many
new ministries including; providing shelter and support for domestic violence
victims, a food pantry which fed between 150-180 households per week, English
as a second language classes, GED classes, a traditional classroom elementary
school for grades K-5 that was approved by the Illinois Superintendent of
Schools, and various educational efforts surrounding the issue of substance
abuse and violence in an inner-city neighborhood that had one of the highest
gang violence rates in the country. The church grew from 9-12 attendees when I
accepted the call to over 175 when I resigned in good standing.
